Feeling a little nervous by Felila

We have been learning to write and present our speeches. We had to persuade the audience to think our way. The Olympics was our theme.
The criteria we had to use to write and present our speech included, an introduction, delivery, content and our conclusion. We also had to:

1) Pose a question.
2) Use powerful words
3) Also appropriate words.

Last week Room 12 down to Room 8 had to present their speech on Olympics. When we finished writing or typing our speech we had to read it and see if it is good. When I heard that we had to read our speeches to the class I felt astonished.
The reasons why we had to read our speech is because we needed to find four winners for our speech competition on Friday 17 of August. It has to be 2 year 6's & 2 year 7's. I was second to read my speech, and I was ready! I kind of felt nervous but did not worry. When I finished my voice was clear and I made good eye contact. I really needed more information and to make it a bit longer because my time was 1.55. Next time I could include more of my own ideas and research my topic more.
After that, we all read our speeches for the third time and chose a winner. It was Chloe and Enosi
for the year six and Auariki and Tan-Charlie for the year sevens.
On the Friday 17 of August (the final day) Chloe, Enosi, Auariki and Tan-Charlie had one last chance to practise.
Finally we have lined up to go in the hall. I knew that some of them were nervous because their voice was shaky. The good news is that Chloe came second and Auariki came fourth. I knew Chloe would come second.

A Silver Medal Speech by Chloe

We have been learning to write and present our speeches. We had to persuade the audience to think our way. The Olympics was our theme.
The criteria we had to use to write and present our speech included, an introduction, delivery, content and our conclusion.

I have learned today to write an interesting introduction by posing a rhetorical question and having powerful words to be very descriptive and have a lot of action.

I think my speech was the best because it caught the listeners attention. My voice was at a good level and my speech was delivered well.  My stance was perfect and I scanned the room looking at my audience. Also my argument stood out. My reasons were strong, important and had a lot of information. The only thing that I probably lacked was when I ask three questions. You may think that that's all right but they were not rhetorical questions. When I presented my content it included my ideas and opinions and was relevant to the topic. My conclusion gathered all my ideas and to me I did a wonderful job. I came second in the year 7 and year 6's speech competition at Glen Innes School. I beat 2 year sevens, that also had fantastic speeches. When I heard my name called out I just wanted to scream, shout and just be happy. But instead I bought my act together and composed myself as a humble person. I was ultra proud of myself. My family and friends were happy for me as much as I was and that's a moment I will never forget.

Next time I can probably have a better, interesting introduction. I can also add a little bit of humour, to make my audience laugh. I could have big, loud sophisticated words. I can try my hardest as well to get my audience to paint a picture in their head just to make them think, when I ask a rhetorical question.

I was so upset - by Auariki

I wasn’t expecting to miss out on the biggest day of my life.
My biggest day was the Netbook Roll Out.
On that day I had to stay at home because I was sick.

While everyone in Rooms 9 to 12 were getting their Netbook I was stuck at home.
I almost cried missing out on getting my OWN Netbook. I had to stay home with my little sister and brother while my mum and nana were at school doing the Netbook course. As I was at home I was watching too much tv while my siblings were running around the house.

When the kids came back home they told me about the Netbook Roll out.
They also told me that they took pictures and played a lot of games. They said they had so much fun exploring their netbook.

I was so happy but I wished I had got the chance to get my own netbook on that day.

Net book roll out...

Hi my name is Jelsma and  I go to Glen Innes school. On Wednesday the 25th of July our school had a netbook launch day. It was amazing  because Rm 12, Rm 11 and Rm 9 were the classes that got netbooks.
That was the biggest day for our school as this was the first time our senior school would be doing their learning with netbooks . I will always remember the day that I got my netbook.

My class were acting weird especially my teacher. They were screaming too much especially Mrs Barry.

It surprised me when it happened! by Kaz

Ki orana, welcome to my blog. I will be describing what happened yesterday (Wednesday 25th of July 2012) It was the most exciting day of my life.
My most favourite lovely and most wonderful teacher aid Miss Lammas, read out an email from the Queen Elizabeth, Richie McCa, Dan Carter and Valerie Adams. How lucky are we to get an email from the Queen, two All Blacks players and Valerie Adams the Olympic shotput champion.
My favourite male teacher Mr.Ramkolowan made a movie that starred  one of  my best friends Celia.
I am think that we should all thank our parents if they had brought you and your brothers or sisters a netbook because you have a wonderful opportunity to work with the Makanalani programme. I will never forget that my mum and dad have bought me a netbook.

Extreme Netbook Day - by Celia

As the noise gets louder I get nervous. Watching the video that Mr Ramkolown, Auariki and I made was not really fun. I had the feeling that I wanted no one to watch . Finally it was over. Next it  was the most amazing part getting our netbook, yay! Using it now will change my learning from boring to fun. Lots of new things I will discover and share so other people can see. We came back to class and started to write about our netbooks. We then started to play games until we had to say byebye netbooks see you tomorrow.

I wasn't expecting that! by Longa

I was  extremely happy to be getting my own Netbook because it’s the first time that we get to use a laptop to improve our learning and help us.

I was really surprised because when we got our Netbook we opened it straight away and I wasn’t expecting to open it.

I will remember the day I got my very own Netbook because that was a very awesome day for me.

I got a big surprise - by Chloe

On the 25th of July Glen Innes School had a netbook launch day.  I was so excited when I received my netbook. It was the most amazing feeling when i just turned it on! I was also excited when my mum and dad showed up with my baby sister.
I got a big surprise when one of the teachers called Miss Lammas received four emails, from the royal queen, the All Blacks captain Richie Mccaw, also the All Blacks fullback Dan Carter and lastly Valarie Adams, representing New Zealand in the 2012 London Olympics. I was astonished to hear all those people congratulating us on a whole new learning experience.
The thing I will remember is that the first day I ever saw a netbook with my name on it and the experience I had the first day I got it as well.

Hi my name is Tupou, I go to Glen Innes school. Our school went to the hall for our netbook launch day. Mr Ramkolowan and Celia made a video for us to watch. It was funny.

It was cool because the Twentieth Century Fox sign came up but it said Glen Innes School. Celia was talking about our netbooks :-)
