G.I. Bootcamp by Chloe

Wow, I can't believe that it's the first time ever, our school has made a Manaiakalani movie. Also a movie showing at the film festival from Glen Innes School. Having netbook's is one of the best thing that has happened to our school. Without it we probably wouldn't be having this wonderful opportunity that I am experiencing now.

Making every part of this movie has built our brains but mostly laughter. It was just like an ordinary school day. We worked during the holidays trying to finish it off before the big day. Our school disco was my main topic in the movie sharing how much fun we had there.

Our movie contains activities, learning and shows students that have developed good values during this fantastic year. I had a awesome time making our movie.  I bet you will have fun watching it.

Earthquake Drills - Its not like the movies by Sameera

Our first movie for the Manaiakalani Film Festival shares lots of fun activities and learning at our school.  Watch out for the earthquake drill. If you practise these three easy steps it could help you in a real life earthquake.
  • Drop
  • Cover
  • Hold.
These are very important to learn because you never know what is going to  be happening next. Glen Innes School has already learnt how to do these three important drills. We also talk about earthquakes happening around the world. We thought it was important to show other schools what we have been learning in our school.

Manaiakalani Film Festival by Auariki

Wow! This is my first time taking part in the Manaiakalani Film Festival. I will also be presenting our film at the film festival.

Glen Innes (G.I.) students wanted to share how we use our knowledge and the different ways we learn.
Our net-books have been fun to use. Going back through my other years I have always used paper and pencils, it was tiring and slow. But with the net-books its been so much faster than before. G.I are so proud of our net-books.

Our movie is about a boy who comes home from school and his mother asks him what he done in school today. He replies "Nothing mum".
He expects his mother to believe him, but does she?
That is why his mother should go to the Manaiakalani Film Festival and see for her self.
Please visit Room 11's blog too for more film festival posts

5+ a Day by Autymn

Today we made delicious sandwiches with lots of healthy vegetables, ham and tuna. Our healthy vegetables were lettuce, carrot and cucumber. The last ingredient was cheese. In my sandwich were all the ingredients.
My first vegetable was lettuce, then Mrs. Barry had put some tuna on my other piece of bread. The second vegetable I put in my sandwich was the cheese, thirdly was the carrot and cucumber. Lastly Mrs. Ramkolowan had handed out ham to my table, I had put the ham in my sandwich and finally put the other piece on my sandwich. It looked really nice, and BIG.
After I put my sandwich together I had took a bite, it was delicious but really BIG. When I took a bite I could see all the 5 + a day colours, it looked amazing. I hope that we do sandwich making every day and get healthier.
Remember when you eat; eat healthy and try all the 5 + a day colours as they are really delicious.

Free Sandwich by Jelsma

Today our school went to the hall and we made a sandwich for free. The ingredients were ham, cheese, lettuce, cucumber and carrot. The teacher gave out the food, all the children were noisy.
The food was donated by Pak'n'Save Glen Innes. The sandwich was  good and my friends were acting weird especially Lasalosi.  After that the little kids went back to their class but as for us we had to tidy up, and then Mr Naidoo said, we are going to do a healthy lunch again.
I can't wait for next week to make a healthy lunch.

Proud of Chloe

We have been learning to write and present our speeches. We had to persuade the audience to think our way. The Olympics was our theme.
The criteria we had to use to write and present our speech included, an introduction, delivery, content and our conclusion.

1)We love doing our speech like the Olympics and our problem and introductions for our speech.
2) We do a lot of work for our speech and lots of our amazing work we have done about speeches.
3) I have been trying hard with my speech.

I think that I did an amazing job for my speech because I persevered and was true to myself when I said my speech. This is some of the facts I included.
Did you know that in the olden days people called soccer football. How many gold medals that New Zealand won. They won five golden medals. The Olympics can keep us fit. I also added my speech ideas and problems in my speech. I was talking clearly and I think that I did a nice job.
On Friday we all  went to our school hall to listen to the speeches. Chloe came second and Room 12 was so proud of Chloe and the others that gave speeches.

My Speech by Ana Malia

We have been learning to write and present our speeches. We had to persuade the audience to think our way. The Olympics was our theme.
The criteria we had to use to write and present our speech included, an introduction, delivery, content and our conclusion.
I have learnt to use powerful words in my introduction and also today I have learnt to write interesting writing.

I think that I didn't do well In my speech because I did not put enough information into my introduction. For example I think that I should have used more powerful words and more humour.

I think that my delivery could have been better because my volume was not loud enough and I did not pronunciate my words correctly and I also didn't look comfortable and confident when I stood in front of the class.

I think that I had a good content because I captured the audience's attention. I also used good expressions in my speech and I included my own ideas but I only had one thing that was wrong in my speech I never included facts to support my opinion.

I think that I did very good in my speech and next time I will try to speak louder in speech and I need to try to put more confident into it.I hope next time I will make it to the finally and then win a price.

Sandwich Making by Felila

Cheese with Tuna & Apple..YUMMY
On Thursday 30th of August, all the classes went to the hall for sandwich making.
We were all surprised and happy. While we were walking to the hall, I heard lots of people talking about the sandwich making, like some of room 9 and room 11. I knew some of them couldn't wait to make the sandwiches.

When we got there everything was prepared. The tables was prepared and wrapped around with paper. The cheese on every table was looking good.
We all sat down getting ready to make and decorate our sandwiches.

But first we had a prayer to bless the food, then the teachers were going everywhere putting vegetables on the plates, we had fun and we enjoyed making the sandwich. We had cucumbers, cheese, grated carrot, ham, lettuce, buttered bread, and tuna with little apple pieces, also some buns.

That was a delicious meal. Thanks to the sponsors of Pak'n'Save, without them bringing the food, the teachers wouldn't have planned it. As soon as we had our prayer, the kids rushed for the cheese and most of all the ham. Yum-yum. We laughed a lot.

I made a sandwich with a lot of ham and cheese. I had two sandwiches and one funny bun, which was shaped like an oval.

After that we cleaned the hall, stacked the chairs and cleaned the floor. Finally we went to class, Than went outside to play. The funny part was when a friend of mine, Evelyn was laughing so much that she nearly choked.

Thanks to all the teachers who prepared the hall and to Pak'n'Save  for supplying the food.

We are all looking forward to have another sandwich making.

Pumpkin or Potato by Pakii

I think this week was cool because we had pumpkin and potato soup.
I didn't like the pumpkin soup because it looked yucky and it tasted yuck.
But the potato soup was yum, it really tasted good and it looked good too.
I really enjoyed having the soup and  I know you would have liked it too.

Yummy in my Tummy by Celia

On Thursday the 30th we went to the hall to make sandwiches. Mine was made up of:
  1. Cucumbers
  2. Tuna
  3. Carrots
  4. Ham

The food was donated by "Pak'n Save" Glen Innes. Its so nice that they have donated all this food. I thought my sandwich was absolutely delicious, I bet you; you would want to eat it all the time. I was sitting with the girls at a table. Right after my first sandwich, there comes another bun to make another sandwich.
"What no tuna and ham"
What a bummer. I was so angry. Then I thought that I could have a carrot sandwich.
I really enjoyed my two sandwiches. They were really yummy. " I could really do another sandwich please". Here is a little poem I remember every time I eat healthy.
Five a day is what they say to keep the colds an flu's away
so fruits an vegetables you should eat to keep you faster on your feet.
I enjoyed eating my lovely sandwich and my friends did too.
I couldn't stand the level of noise going on in the hall though.

I really had a blast making sandwiches in the hall.

I love puppies by Longa

Snoopy
Girly
Do you like puppies? Well I absolutely adore puppies. Do you know why I love puppies? It's because I grew up with a puppy called Spot. Spot is about 8-9 years old. I like Spot because he is kind to me and plays with me. Also because my brother Jamie  has two labador, red nose, part German shepherd  puppies named Snoopy and Girly. They are brother and sister, which makes it better for them to communicate much better also play together in a friendly way. Sometimes they can annoy me by crying. Did you know that puppies cry? Well I didn't know until they started crying. But you can get used to it. Puppies are just great to own because you can have a lot of fun and when they grow up you can take them for walks. I enjoy playing with Spot, Girly and Snoopy. I am sure if you have a puppy or puppies, you will enjoy playing with them as much as I do.

The yummiest sandwich by Talia

Wow! What an amazing lunch we had on Thursday the 30th of August. It was so cool because we had a healthy lunch with carrots, lettuce, cucumbers, ham, cheese, bread & tuna with apple inside it. The food was so delicious, the best part was that our school was so lucky we didn't have to spend a whole heap of money buying the things to make our yummy sandwiches. It was because Glen Innes Pak'n'Save had sponsored all the food that they had provided us with. On my table we all munched on our sandwiches like there was no tommorow. On our secound round we did so much creating with our ingredients, we had so much to eat our stomachs were so full. In our table we said to each other guess our yummy sandwich. After all the ingredients were on our table we rushed and took as much as we could. At the end I was looking around to see who had the yummiest sandwich. I picked Auariki. She was so creative with the fruit & veges in her sandwich. It was so cool that at the end we had to clean & pack up all the tables & chairs.            So eat healthy every day & remember the 5+ a day.....

Five a day is what they say,

So fruit & veges you should eat,
It makes you faster on you feet!

Feeling a little nervous by Felila

We have been learning to write and present our speeches. We had to persuade the audience to think our way. The Olympics was our theme.
The criteria we had to use to write and present our speech included, an introduction, delivery, content and our conclusion. We also had to:

1) Pose a question.
2) Use powerful words
3) Also appropriate words.

Last week Room 12 down to Room 8 had to present their speech on Olympics. When we finished writing or typing our speech we had to read it and see if it is good. When I heard that we had to read our speeches to the class I felt astonished.
The reasons why we had to read our speech is because we needed to find four winners for our speech competition on Friday 17 of August. It has to be 2 year 6's & 2 year 7's. I was second to read my speech, and I was ready! I kind of felt nervous but did not worry. When I finished my voice was clear and I made good eye contact. I really needed more information and to make it a bit longer because my time was 1.55. Next time I could include more of my own ideas and research my topic more.
After that, we all read our speeches for the third time and chose a winner. It was Chloe and Enosi
for the year six and Auariki and Tan-Charlie for the year sevens.
On the Friday 17 of August (the final day) Chloe, Enosi, Auariki and Tan-Charlie had one last chance to practise.
Finally we have lined up to go in the hall. I knew that some of them were nervous because their voice was shaky. The good news is that Chloe came second and Auariki came fourth. I knew Chloe would come second.

A Silver Medal Speech by Chloe

We have been learning to write and present our speeches. We had to persuade the audience to think our way. The Olympics was our theme.
The criteria we had to use to write and present our speech included, an introduction, delivery, content and our conclusion.

I have learned today to write an interesting introduction by posing a rhetorical question and having powerful words to be very descriptive and have a lot of action.

I think my speech was the best because it caught the listeners attention. My voice was at a good level and my speech was delivered well.  My stance was perfect and I scanned the room looking at my audience. Also my argument stood out. My reasons were strong, important and had a lot of information. The only thing that I probably lacked was when I ask three questions. You may think that that's all right but they were not rhetorical questions. When I presented my content it included my ideas and opinions and was relevant to the topic. My conclusion gathered all my ideas and to me I did a wonderful job. I came second in the year 7 and year 6's speech competition at Glen Innes School. I beat 2 year sevens, that also had fantastic speeches. When I heard my name called out I just wanted to scream, shout and just be happy. But instead I bought my act together and composed myself as a humble person. I was ultra proud of myself. My family and friends were happy for me as much as I was and that's a moment I will never forget.

Next time I can probably have a better, interesting introduction. I can also add a little bit of humour, to make my audience laugh. I could have big, loud sophisticated words. I can try my hardest as well to get my audience to paint a picture in their head just to make them think, when I ask a rhetorical question.

I was so upset - by Auariki

I wasn’t expecting to miss out on the biggest day of my life.
My biggest day was the Netbook Roll Out.
On that day I had to stay at home because I was sick.

While everyone in Rooms 9 to 12 were getting their Netbook I was stuck at home.
I almost cried missing out on getting my OWN Netbook. I had to stay home with my little sister and brother while my mum and nana were at school doing the Netbook course. As I was at home I was watching too much tv while my siblings were running around the house.

When the kids came back home they told me about the Netbook Roll out.
They also told me that they took pictures and played a lot of games. They said they had so much fun exploring their netbook.

I was so happy but I wished I had got the chance to get my own netbook on that day.
